- Breaker. Reset the AC breaker once. If it trips again, leave it off and call — repeated resets on a real fault are dangerous.
- Filter. If it’s grey and matted, swap it and give the system 30 minutes.
- Reset. Thermostat OFF → breaker OFF → wait five full minutes → breaker ON → thermostat to COOL. The wait matters: restarting a compressor too early is how they die.
Don’t reset it — call instead — if you smell burning or gas, see smoke, hear grinding, or the breaker trips again straight away.
